About
Consciencebound is defined by me as following what YOU believe to be the truth, according to your own conscience. Conscience is defined as that internal ethical sense that we seem to have which bothers us when we do the “wrong” thing. Consciencebound is more about intellectual honesty than anything else since I am not sure there is even such a thing as a “conscience”. Our conscience can also be wrong so in that sense I do not feel bound to my conscience per se, but I do want to be honest intellectually and to try to seek out and follow the truth wherever it may lead me.
In my personal experience, I ironically came to a place in my religious beliefs where I could not honestly hold to them any longer in good conscience. The whole Christian worldview just became less and less plausible to me and I could not bring myself to practice it any longer given the nature of my convictions. My convictions as to the truth or falsity of Christianity were born from my own personal questions, reading and just seeing inadequate arguments that were used to support my beliefs by the “experts”. This is not to say that I am an expert myself or that I am smarter or better than other people who believe that Christianity is supported by the facts of history, logic and experience, it is just to say that I have not found those reasons to be convincing any longer for myself. I like to think that I am still open to the truth and if it could be shown that my previous beliefs were in fact true, I would believe them again. I am open to talking to anyone or reading anything that might attempt to lead me to the “truth”.
This web page is my attempt to articulate some of my changes of belief and my questions. Some of the posts here will be short reflections and some will be longer and more thought out. I encourage anyone reading the things that I have on this web site to either post replies or to email me at consciencebound at gmail.com (with the @ in place of “at”) if you have any thoughts or questions on what I have written.
