Now that Obama is President, What If…
After a long and tedious election process Barrack Obama is now elected as the 44th president of the United States of America. It is truly historic in the sense that he is the first African-American to hold the highest office in the land and for that I am glad. I did not vote for Obama but I have been thinking about what the next four years might entail and what my response will be to them. The question of his policies and how he is going to actually govern this great country are now what we have to discuss and deal with. It will be an interesting next 4 years for sure and so I wanted to pose some questions for both those who voted for Obama and for those who did not before these next four years begins:
For those who Voted AGAINST Obama, What if…
- What if the economy actually turns around in the next few years under Obama’s leadership of higher taxes for the “rich”, “job producing” members of our society?
- What if we actually end up having better health care as a result of Obama’s policies, not worse?
- What if our relationship with the rest of the world is significantly improved by Obama?
- What if negotiating with “terrorist” leaders in the middle east actually proves to be effective in reducing acts of terrorism?
- What if less people die as a result of pulling out of Iraq and what if Iraq as a country does just fine without us being there?
If any of the above things happen in the next 4 years, what will be your response? Will that give you pause and make you rethink the policies that you once thought would be so destructive to this country?
For those who voted FOR Obama, What if…
- What if Obama raises taxes on the “rich” to pay for the social programs of the “non rich” and this actually has a detrimental effect on our already failing economy?
- What if, Obama is forced to lower taxes and give tax rebates in order to jump start the economy?
- What if his health care plan is an abject failure which takes the country further into the poor house than it is now?
- What if we get national health care and the care is actually worse than it is now?
- What if pulling out of Iraq before we are “done” causes ten times the loss of life than what we are experiencing while at war?
- What if acts of terror increase against the United States both at home and abroad during Obama’s presidency which seem to be a result of his policies?
- What if trying to be diplomatic with terrorist countries proves to be a very foolish thing to do and we end up going to war because of it?
If any of these things happen, what will that make you think about the kind of policies and viewpoints that Obama has argued for in this presidential race? Will that cause you to change your mind on how effective they are? Would it make you consider other options?
Any thoughts?
